With smoky air choking Southlanders again Wednesday, air-quality officials began passing out tip sheets to avoid the worst of the pollution and announced they will answer questions over a hotline.

South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county.  staff will man the (800) CUT-SMOG hotline during business hours BUSINESS HOURS. The time of the day during which business is transacted. In respect to the time of presentment and demand of bills and notes, business hours generally range through the whole day down to the hours of rest in the evening, except when the paper is payable it a bank or by a  this week and through the weekend.

 recommends:

--Stay indoors, set air conditioners to recirculate air and keep windows and doors closed.

--Exercise indoors and limit or cancel sports activities.

--Reduce physical activity. The less you exert yourself, the less polluted air you breathe.

--Consult your doctor if you suffer from a heart or lung problem.

--Have a plan and medication available if you suffer from a chronic disease that can be worsened by smoky air.

--Check alerts from the AQMD by calling the hotline or visiting www.aqmd.gov.
