NATURAL RESOURCES TAKE NOTES.

The Fishing Notebook Web site (www.fishingnotebook.com) leaves few aspects of fishing uncovered.

Start by reading a series of articles - ones featured this week included catfishing, intuition while analyzing the lake or deciding on lures or setups, and a company that dyes nightcrawlers to shades of red, blue or green.

There is a state-by-state fishing-report section and a recipe page including such delicacies as ``Beer Battered Bass,'' ``Potato Chip Catfish'' and ``Jimmy Houston's Cajun Crappie crappie: see sunfish.

Times, did what many ardent fishermen only dream about - he took off an entire month to fish the autumn run of stripped bass at Montauk Point on Long Island.

Then he wrote about it in this wonderfully evocative account that mixes fishing lore, the inside skinny on feuding fishing guides and first-hand accounts of ``blitzes'' of fish that churn the water and quicken the pulse of any fishermen lucky enough to witness them.

This is a story about fish and fishing guides, the sea and the local people who live off the ocean's harvest. It's what Kaminsky calls a ``walkabout walkabout
