``Outside 25: Classic Tales and New Voices from the Frontiers of Adventure''

Edited by Hal Espen

(W.W. Norton & Company, 2002, $25.95)

Outside Magazine is the country's best magazine, period. No attitude. No elitism e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism
n.
1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
. I like to think of it as literary excellence with a soul.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the magazine released this must-own anthology from 36 writers described perfectly and simply by its editor. ``Outside,'' he writes, ``has always been a magazine of audacious storytellers and brace iconoclasts.''

In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke"
put differently
, it is the work of the greatest adventure writers of our era. And it is, I think, the work of men and women with a depth of soul we are fortunate to witness.

--Bubba's Guide Service: This one isn't too far away. Bubba's (http://bubbasguide.com) is on Arizona's Lake Powell Noun 1. Lake Powell - the second largest reservoir in the United States; located in southern Utah and north central Arizona and formed by the Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River . The real names of the guides are Jim and Chris Cliburn, but we were intrigued by the Bubba reference. And there is a history: The organization's founder was a fellow named Jerry ``Bubba'' Puckett.

Now it's the father-and-son team of the Cliburns, who do full- and half-day trips for trophy largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass striped bass

And Pippin takes pride in getting his customers some action. ``My policy is NO FISH, NO PAY! If we don't catch any fish, fishing the way I suggest. ... You don't pay!''
