NATURAL RESOURCES BOOK REVIEW.

``Scats SCATS Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System

SCATS Simulation Checkout and Training System
SCATS Suspense Control and Automated Tracking System
and Tracks of the Desert Southwest,'' by James C. Halfpenny, Falcon Guides, $9.95 It might seem strange that someone would write a book about animal dung DUNG. Manure. Sometimes it is real estate, and at other times personal property. When collected in a heap, it is personal estate; when spread out on the land, it becomes incorporated in it, and it is then real estate. Vide Manure. . But with this fascinating and well-organized guide, you can identify what wild critters have been around by the marks and droppings they leave. This is likely the only indication you'll find of human-shy animals like mountain lions. The author has taught classes in outdoor education for the Smithsonian and other organizations, and trained rangers in tracking techniques at Yellowstone and other national parks This is a list of national parks ordered by nation. . The book's introduction includes an explanation of the mechanics of animal gaits and how they can be used to identify the size of an animal from their tracks. Scat SCAT sheep cell agglutination test.  and cough pellets - remnants of prey coughed up by many birds - are also explained. A visual key to tracks and scat by different species groups helps to quickly identify which animals left them. The book's 70 entries are divided by species group. Each animal and its tracks and scat are clearly illustrated. Notes about range, habitat and other signs are included. The margins of the pages provide a reference to the average size of tracks and scat for each animal. The book is small enough to slip into a pocket on your next hike. Just don't go barefoot.
