NATURAL RESOURCES BOOK REVIEW.``The Path: A One-Mile Walk Through the Universe'' By Chet Raymo Chet Raymo (born September 17, 1936 in Chattanooga, Tennessee) is a noted writer, educator and naturalist. He is Professor Emeritus of Physics at Stonehill College, in Easton, Massachusetts. (Walker Publishing, 2003, $21) A lump of coal, the author writes, is a packet of stored sunlight. So, too, is his work. Illuminating the ordinary that he encountered through the years on his daily one-mile walk from his home in a small Massachusetts town to the local college where he worked, retired professor Chet Raymo reminds us of the remarkable all around. We don't need to go anywhere far to experience the wonder of nature or even, more profoundly, the universe. Just slow down a bit, pay attention, think some. We are, he illustrates, part of interconnected web that stretches from you to me to New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt. to the Earth's glacial caps to the light of a distant star. It is a spiritual journey, mostly, and Raymo takes us along. It's a journey most of us who spend time in the outdoors have taken before and will take again, intuitively at least. It's why we bring our children with us. - Michael A. The gear and equipment reviews are also helpful. In an article titled ``How To Buy Footwear That Fits'', the author tells us ``Footwear that's too soft and floppy for your load will let sharp stones bruise your arches and encourage ankle sprains. ... Too stiff a boot, on the other hand, makes you walk like a 1-year-old with fused ankles.'' --The monster mash: Another catchy Web site that caught our attention: MonsterMuleys.com.
