NATURAL RESOURCES AFTER THE STORM ``RED SKY IN MORNING: A TRUE STORY OF LOVE, LOSS AND SURVIVAL AT SEA'' BY TAMI OLDHAM ASHCRAFT (HYPERION, 2002, $23.95).

There are some stories so good it doesn't matter how well they are written.

Such is the case with this epic tale. Simplistic sim·plism
n.
The tendency to oversimplify an issue or a problem by ignoring complexities or complications.

[French simplisme, from simple, simple, from Old French; see simple
and mediocre, the ghost- written narrative is saved by the heart-warming heart·warm·ing or heart-warm·ing
adj.
1. Causing gladness and pleasure.

2. Eliciting sympathy and tender feelings: a heartwarming tale.
and heart-wrenching subject matter: Ashcraft's survival for 41 days at sea after the yacht she and her fiance were sailing from Tahiti to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  was battered and nearly destroyed by Hurricane Raymond The name Raymond has been used for two tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
  • 1983's Hurricane Raymond
  • 1989's Hurricane Raymond
 in 1983.

Ashcraft's fiance died when he was swept overboard during the height of the storm. Ashcraft, herself severely injured, managed to sail the jury- rigged boat to Hawaii, relying on rudimentary navigational equipment, few provisions, her intelligence and her guts.

Interspersing the adventure with remembrances of her development from city girl to professional mariner with exciting stories of the South Pacific and beyond, as well as her fairy-tale relationship with her fiance, this love/action story is a sure bet for the big screen and undoubtedly will appeal to a wide audience. The story's that good.

SEOUL POWER

It might not seem like one of the world's great fly-fishing havens, but Korea contains some of the most productive trout waters around.

``Fly fishing is perhaps one of the fastest growing sports in Korea,'' writes Young Park, editor of the Korean fly-fishing Web site (http://www.koreanflyfishing.com/). ``To my joy, these days I see reels, rods and some other fly goods made in Korea on the market, which makes we take pride.''

Park said fly fishing in his country isn't as advanced as it is in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , Great Britain Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 60,441,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain.  and other countries. ``But I look to the bright side of the future, because we have a decent basis for fly fishing, that is, we have many beautiful rivers, streams and clean creeks, not to speak of fly anglers' ardent activities.''

--Just big fish: Staying with the international theme, another site worth checking out is Just Us: Big Game Fishing (http://www.antillean.net/). Trips to Curacao, Aruba and Venezuela are highlighted. The game fish of choice in these waters is marlin.

Trips to these locations are available on the Web site, as is a list of marlin and billfish billfish
