The station, owned and operated by Pinnacle CNG, is located at The Gas Co.'s Lancaster customer service operations facility, 44416 Division St. The new facility will serve the public as well as businesses and government agencies that operate vehicles fueled by natural gas. Gas company officials say natural gas vehicles are growing in popularity and emit fewer pollutants than gasoline-powered vehicles. Currently, there are more than 20,000 natural gas vehicles in California and over 90,000 nationally. The Gas Co. operates 900 natural gas vehicles with more on order. Drivers of natural gas vehicles are being rewarded for their efforts. A California state law enacted in July 2000, allows dedicated natural gas vehicles to use the high-occupancy vehicle lanes in California regardless of the number of occupants. ``Natural gas vehicles run significantly cleaner than diesel and gasoline-fueled trucks and cars,'' said Charles Fryxell, air pollution control officer at the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District. ``Reducing air pollution and working toward a cleaner California is a top priority for our agency as well as the many other air-pollution control agencies throughout the state. Hopefully, even more Californians will be inclined to consider the benefits of driving alternatively fueled vehicles.'' The public fueling station is the result of a cooperative effort between Pinnacle CNG, the Antelope Valley AQMD AQMD Air Quality Management District AQMD Action Quake Map Depot and The Gas Company. The Antelope Valley AQMD provided $426,000 in grant funding to build the station on land supplied by The Gas Co.. Statewide, there are 200 compressed natural gas Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a substitute for gasoline (petrol) or diesel fuel. It is considered to be an environmentally "clean" alternative to those fuels. It is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed by methane (CH4 fueling stations, 109 of which are open to the public. The other Antelope Valley natural gas fueling station, owned and operated by the Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency, is located at 670 W. Ave. L-8. ``The public-private partnership Public-private partnership (PPP) describes a government service or private business venture which is funded and operated through a partnership of government and one or more private sector companies. These schemes are sometimes referred to as PPP or P3. involving the Antelope Valley AQMD, The Gas Co. and Pinnacle played a critical role in the opening of this new public refueling station,'' said Drew Diggins, operations manager See datacenter manager. at Pinnacle CNG. ``The economic model used for the site can be duplicated for future successful and cost-effective expansion of public-access CNG stations in California.'' Pinnacle CNG has provided compressed natural gas fueling equipment and technology since 1991. The company owns and operates nine of the largest automatic, unmanned CNG fueling sites in California that are available to the public.
