NATIONSSECURITIES NAMES MITCHELL T. GRANT DIRECTOR OF AFFILIATED INSTITUTIONS

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsSecurities today announced it has hired Mitchell T. Grant, formerly of Putnam Investments, as director of affiliated institutions.
Grant will hold the title of executive vice president and will have responsibility for the syndication of NationsSecurities products and services to other financial institutions, said Vincent P. Walls, president and chief operating officer of NationsSecurities.
"We looked most of this year for the right person for this important position," Walls said. "With help from one of the most respected executive search firms in the country, we located Mitchell Grant. We are extremely impressed with Mitchell and look forward to the strong syndication results we are sure he will produce."
Charles R. King, executive vice president of NationsSecurities, said Grant will ensure that the syndication effort maintains the NationsSecurities commitment to multiple safeguards for customers.
"Mitchell shares our concern that customers realize what they are buying when they invest in mutual funds, stocks or bonds," King said. "We have institutionalized the highest professional standards for the sales representatives who work for NationsSecurities and Mitchell will make sure those institutions which obtain the rights to offer the same products will follow in our footsteps."
NationsSecurities is a joint venture of NationsBank and Dean Witter Financial Services Group Inc. It was formed a year ago to market investment products and services primarily to bank customers within a bank environment.
Walls said NationsSecurities will have more than 600 investment officers by the end of 1993, located throughout the NationsBank service area of nine states and the District of Columbia. Grant will pursue syndication opportunities through other banks nationwide, he said.
Grant joined Putnam Investments in Boston in 1987 to head its insurance products and retirement plan marketing efforts. Since 1990, he has served the company as senior vice president and director of its Financial Institutions Division.
Previously, Grant was director of Insurance Product Marketing for Interstate Securities Corp. in Charlotte. The native of Washington, D.C., started his career in life insurance and soon founded Capital Planning Inc., a firm focused on the financial needs of retirees.
Grant earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969. He and his wife, the former Muffin Dalton of Charlotte, have two children. They will live in Charlotte.
Grant's appointment is effective immediately, Walls said.
