NATIONSBANK CONTRIBUTES $1 MILLION TO ATLANTA UNIVERSITY CENTER TO CREATE NATIONSBANK SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

ATLANTA, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) today announced it is contributing $1 million to the four universities in the Atlanta University Center to create the NationsBank Scholarship Program.
Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College and Spelman College each will receive a contribution of $250,000. The contributions will be used to give academic scholarships for business and economics students at the four universities. Excluding previous gifts consisting of property and buildings, the $1 million contribution is the largest gift ever made by NationsBank in Georgia to benefit higher education. Top officials at each university will decide which students receive the scholarships.
"We are establishing the NationsBank Scholarship Program for two reasons," said Jim Lientz, president of NationsBank of Georgia. "First, as the largest bank in Georgia, NationsBank must support the universities based here so we can continue to attract the best and brightest students from around the country.
"Second, we want to leave no doubt that NationsBank intends to recruit the top performing students from these four universities to come to work for us. If a student is considering a career in banking or financial services, we want them to know management and professional career opportunities exist at NationsBank."
In addition to its $1 million contribution, NationsBank will also make several senior executives from throughout the company available as guest lecturers at the four universities. As part of the NationsBank Lecture Series, the company will provide two executives each semester to each of the schools to discuss topics chosen by the universities. The program will begin in fall 1994.
NationsBank regularly recruits graduates from the four Atlanta University Center schools to fill entry-level management positions. Recruiters will be interviewing June graduates of the four universities for jobs as commercial lenders, banking center managers, mortgage lenders, auditors and bank analysts.
NationsBank also hires several Atlanta University Center students, from freshmen through seniors, as summer interns. During the past summer, NationsBank hired 15 student interns from the four universities.
NationsBank is the largest bank in Georgia with 200 banking centers throughout the state and 115 in metro Atlanta.
