NATIONAL STARCH FORMS JOINT VENTURE IN SAUDI ARABIA

 BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- National Starch and Chemical Company today announced the formation of a joint venture with Basic Chemical Industries Ltd. (BCI) in Saudi Arabia to be known as National Adhesives Ltd. Terms were not disclosed.
 Until now BCI has acted as National's agent in the region, marketing adhesives manufactured at various National plants in Europe. The new joint venture company, which will be 49 percent owned by National, initially will construct an adhesives plant to supply this increasingly important area of the world.
 National Starch and Chemical, a Unilever company, headquartered in Bridgewater, is a worldwide manufacturer of adhesives, resins, specialty chemicals and specialty starches, with 1991 sales of $1.76 billion.
