NATIONAL HEALTH ANNOUNCES PROFITABLE SECOND QUARTER

PHOENIX, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- National Health Enhancement Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: NHES) today announced financial results for the three and six months ended July 31, 1993. Net income for the three- month period rose to $183,178, or earnings of $0.07 per share, compared to $83,382, or earnings of $0.05 per share, a year earlier. Net income for the six months ended July 31, 1993, was $95,060, or earnings of $0.01, compared to net income of $120,374, or $0.07 per share, for the same period a year ago.
Gregory J. Petras, president and chief executive officer for the company, reported that the company increased net income from the same three-month period last year by approximately 120 percent. The earnings per share numbers also take into account the preferred dividend which was incurred for the first time in 1993. Profits for the six-month period were impacted by the company's sales expansion efforts and market uncertainties associated with healthcare reform. However, the second quarter results reflect the successful sales expansion and the fact that the market appears to be moving beyond the paralysis created by the pending reform in healthcare industry.
Petras stated that revenues for the three months ended July 31, 1993, climbed to $3,065,529 from $2,028,929 in 1992, a 51 percent jump. Revenues for the six-month period ended July 31, 1993, also escalated to $4,769,169 from $3,632,216 for the same period last year, representing an increase of 31 percent. "Two of our products, VoiceMax and Health Direct, provided the majority of our revenue and earnings growth, while The Professionals and Centramax products also contributed to the company's bottom line," Petras noted. In addition, revenues were also positively affected by the services offered by National Health's recent acquisition, First Strategic Group.
Petras believes that the company will continue to experience solid revenue and earnings growth. "As we have said in the past, no matter what the outcome of the President's recently proposed health plan, the company's products are well-positioned to help hospitals, managed care, and other healthcare providers contain costs and increase productivity. Consequently, whether the Clinton Administration's Health Plan calls for strict spending caps, employer-financed plans or higher taxes, healthcare providers will be forced to become leaner and more efficiently run businesses. As employers are forced to shoulder more of the burden of healthcare insurance, and consumers are offered a choice in their healthcare plans, the healthcare providers that offer quality services at reasonable cost will be the ones that succeed," Petras commented. "Healthcare providers are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of our products, and we are confident this will translate into continued growth for National Health on an annual basis," Petras added.
