NATIONAL DATA REPORTS YEAR-END RESULTS FOR FISCAL 1992

NATIONAL DATA REPORTS YEAR-END RESULTS FOR FISCAL 1992
ATLANTA, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- National Data Corporation (NASDAQ: NDTA) today announced revenue of $219.4 million and earnings of $7.4 million, or 62 cents per share, for the year ended May 31.
This compares with revenue of $229.6 million and a loss of $14.1 million for the prior year.
For the fourth quarter, revenue was $54.7 million, with earnings of $1.4 million, or 11 cents per share. This compares with revenue of $56.8 million and a $20.4 million loss in the comparable quarter last year.
The slight decline in revenue was largely attributable to the anticipated impact of the phase out of a multi-year government contract and decisions made in previous years to exit the communications services business and high-risk segments of the airline industry. The revenue figures also reflect the worldwide economic conditions and pricing pressures in some market segments.
Net income was impacted by fourth quarter charges for product development expenses associated with superseded projects.
In commenting on the results, National Data's new chairman and chief executive officer, Robert A. Yellowlees, stated: "These results reflect progress in the restoration of the company to its long history of growth. We see significant opportunities in the retail, financial services, healthcare, government and corporate market segments. To respond to them, we have taken action to reduce overhead and reallocate resources to sales and product development activities.
"This, combined with the strength of our balance sheet, will position us well to capture the potential in the market.
"To do that," he said, "we have three priorities. First, emphasis on our value added application systems and information services in key market segments. Second, leverage of our considerable assets, especially our employees' knowledge and creativity. Third, improved productivity in sales, product development and operations.
"Our second quarter century begins this month. We expect these initiatives to return the company to the sustained growth in earnings and shareholder value that it enjoyed in its first 25 years."
National Data Corporation is a leading provider of value-added application systems and information services for the worldwide market.
