NATIONAL CONSUMER GROUP SURVEY REVEALS SPRINT OFFERS THE MOST
 UNRESTRICTED SAVINGS TO CONSUMERS
KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 7, 1992 -- Sprint's (NYSE: FON) new residential calling plan, The Most, offers consumers the most savings with the least restrictions, according to a survey conducted by the Telecommunications Research and Action Center (TRAC).
TRAC offered the following "hot tip": "For unrestricted plans, Sprint's new offering 'The Most' is often the least expensive plan with the fewest restrictions. The Most provides cost savings of 40 to 60 percent from the highest cost plan on the chart."
Excluding those plans TRAC defined as "limited use," Sprint offered the least expensive calling option for unrestricted calling plans in 14 out of 15 sample monthly bills included in TRAC's latest long distance cost comparison chart. Sprint's The Most provided the least expensive call in 12 instances. Sprint's volume discount plan, Sprint Plus, ranked lowest cost in two case examples.
The Most, introduced on June 1, 1992, provides an automatic 20 percent discount on calls to the person a customer talks to the most each month -- including international and FONCARD(sm) calls -- even if the called person is with another long distance carrier. The most frequently called number can change every month as a customer's calling habits change. The Most also provides an automatic 20 percent discount on all calls to Sprint's millions of customers -- anytime and anywhere.
When the most frequently called number in a given month is a Sprint customer, Sprint will combine both discounts for an effective overall savings of 36 percent on calls to that number.
"Sprint designed The Most to offer customers the easiest way to save the most money," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group. "There are no restrictions whatsoever, and the customer is guaranteed a savings every single month by simply picking up the phone. The TRAC survey shows that by being on the right plan, consumers can save significant amounts of money each month."
The TRAC survey compared rates for three different types of users. The "average user" category reflects what a typical residential consumer might experience, with calls dispersed evenly throughout calling periods. The second category is designed for "heavy night/weekend" callers. The third category is for consumers who are "heavy day" users of long distance service.
TRAC is a non-profit consumer group based in Washington. This survey is the 23rd long distance comparison TRAC has conducted in the last seven years.
