NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION APPOINTS ZOELLER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL COUNSEL AND SECRETARY; WILLIAMS TO RETIRE

 NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION APPOINTS ZOELLER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
 GENERAL COUNSEL AND SECRETARY; WILLIAMS TO RETIRE
 CLEVELAND, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) announced today that David L. Zoeller, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Merchants National Corporation, Indianapolis, has been appointed senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of the Cleveland-based bank holding company effective at the consummation of the merger between Merchants National and National City scheduled for May 1, 1992. Robert T. Williams, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of National City will be retiring on June 1 at age 65, as planned.
 Zoeller, 42, will relocate to Cleveland from Indianapolis. As general counsel and secretary, Zoeller will be responsible for all legal matters involving National City Corporation and its subsidiaries. In his new position, Zoeller will report to William R. Robertson, deputy chairman of National City Corporation.

 National City currently has a merger pending with Merchants National Corporation, a $5.8 billion multi-bank holding company headquartered in Indianapolis.
 Profile of David L. Zoeller
 Zoeller has been senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Merchants National Corporation since 1983. Prior to that, he was assistant secretary and assistant treasurer of Stokely-Van Camp, Inc. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and holds a doctorate of law degree from Indiana University.
 Zoeller's board affiliations include the Lawyers Committee of the Association of Bank Holding Companies, the American Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He and his wife Wesley have two children.
 Profile of Robert T. Williams
 Williams has been senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of National City Corporation since 1988. Prior to that time, he served as senior vice president and chief legal counsel of National City Bank and as assistant general counsel of National City Corporation.
 Williams joined National City in 1974 as vice president, general counsel and secretary of National City Realty Corporation. He became vice president of the law department for National City Bank in 1976 and vice president and assistant general counsel in 1981.
 A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Williams received both his bachelor's and doctorate of law degrees from Youngstown State University. He was in private practice in Youngstown for 11 years before moving his practice to Cleveland in 1965.
 Williams is a member of the American, Greater Cleveland, and Ohio Bar Associations, the Lawyers Committee of the Association of Bank Holding Companies, and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries.
