NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION ANNOUNCES COMPTROLLER OF THE CURRENCY'S LIFTING OF SANCTIONS ON MERCHANTS NATIONAL BANK AND TRUST COMPANY
 CLEVELAND, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) today announced that the Comptroller of the Currency has lifted all sanctions contained in a Memorandum of Understanding that the regulator had with Merchants National Bank and Trust Company (NASDAQ: MCHN). Merchants National, headquartered in Indianapolis, officially joined National City Corporation on May 2, 1992.
 According to a letter from the Comptroller dated May 2, 1992, Merchants National has been successful in achieving the goals outlined in the Memorandum dated July 17, 1990 which focused on the improvement of credit quality as well as the achievement and maintenance of adequate capital standards. Further details about the Memorandum are included in National City Corporation's Proxy Statement dated March 6, 1992.
 The Comptroller explained in its letter to Merchants National Bank, "We believe the goals of the document have been met and we are satisfied that you are committed to continuing the policies and procedures that have been implemented. Therefore, the Memorandum of Understanding is considered to be terminated as of the above date (May 2, 1992)."
 The Comptroller indicated that it will continue to monitor the Bank's efforts "as part of its supervisory activities relating to National City Corporation." Profile of National City Corporation
