An early and important use of the technique was in the Linotype machine (1884), but the mass-production automobile assembly line gave die casting its real impetus. Assn. (NADCA NADCA National Air Duct Cleaners Association NADCA North American Die Casting Association NADCA National Aboriginal Dance Council Australia NADCA National Animal Damage Control Association NADCA North American Draft Cross Association, Inc ), Wheeling, Ill., honored seven die castings as winners of the 2005 International Die Casting Competition demonstrating the quality, innovation and cost-savings that can be achieved with diecast parts. The awards, announced at Cast Expo '05 in St. Louis, were given to die castings ranging from 1 oz.-61 lbs. (0.028-27.67 kg) in several categories. The honorees were: Aluminum less than 1 lb. (0.45 kg)--ABM Manufacturing, Sedalia, Mo., for its folding table nesting latch, which was a two-piece design that replaced a three-piece assembly requiring five unique parts, reducing tooling, part and assembly costs; Aluminum 1-10 lbs. (0.45-4.53 kg)--Imperial Die Casting, Liberty, S.C., for a complex diesel engine oil filter housing, which was a new design, incorporating multiple functions in a near-net shape part that maintained flatness within 0.014 in. (0.035 cm) for the bottom mating surface; Aluminum more than 10 lbs. (4.53 kg)--Walker Die Casting, Lewisburg, Tenn., for its 61-lb. (27.67-kg) high-pressure aluminum transaxle trans·ax·le n. An automotive part that combines the transmission and the differential and is used on vehicles with front-wheel drive. [trans(mission) + axle.] case for a consumer vehicle that replaced an iron part, reducing weight and using lower-cost raw materials; Aluminum more than 10 lbs. (4.53 kg), non-automotive--Bardane Manufacturing Co., Jermyn, Pa., for a 10.25-lb. (4.65-kg) impeller used in commercial and industrial blowers that provides a quieter and faster rotating operation; Zinc less than 6 oz. (0.17 kg)/non-electroplated--DeCardy Die Casting, Chicago, for its 1.75-in. (4.44-cm), 1-oz. (0.028-kg) reverse valve casting for a Snap-On heavy duty air impact wrench An impact wrench (also known as an air wrench, air gun, or just gun in some contexts, as well as rattle gun in some countries) is a socket wrench power tool designed to deliver high torque output with minimal exertion by the user, by storing energy in a that met tight tolerances and minimized machining; Zinc more than 6 oz. (0.17 kg)/non-electroplated--Dero Enterprises Inc., Montreal, Quebec, Canada for its 2-lb. (0.056-kg) snow stop roof bracket that supports snow and ice barriers installed on steel-covered roofs; Magnesium magnesium (măgnē`zēəm, –zhəm), metallic chemical element; symbol Mg; at. no. 12; at. wt. 24.305; m.p. about 648.8°C;; b.p. about 1,090°C;; sp. gr. 1.738 at 20°C;; valence +2. less than 0.5 lbs. (0.23 kg)--Phillips Plastics Corp., Menomonie, Wis., for a 1.09 oz. (0.031-kg) fishing reel A fishing reel is a device used for the deployment and retrieval of fishing line using a spool mounted on an axle.
