NAA connects with members through leadership briefings.

In an effort to reach all affiliates through affiliate leadership--including local and state officers, other board members and association executives--NM conducted five leadership briefings in February and March.

The briefings were held across the country in locations that allowed for convenient travel and served as an alternative for NAA affiliate leadership who cannot attend NAA's three national board meetings.

Each location was selected to appeal to two regions. With the recent affiliation of California, the number of NAA regions has grown to 10.

"If they can't come to us, we will go to them," said Doug Culkin, CAE, NAA President. "We were delighted with the turnout of 150 leaders for the briefings. It gave NAA a chance to inform members of the benefits and services we provide from the national office, and it allowed our members to express what concerns them most in their businesses and offer suggestions on how NAA can assist."

The day-long briefings were made by NAA Chairman of the Board Joe Sharp, CAPS, Irica Solomon, NAA's Director of Political Outreach, NAA Regional Vice Presidents of the represented regions and Culkin.

All speakers updated affiliate leaders about what is happening at NAA regarding the Education Institute (NAAEI), California affiliation, NAAPAC, the strategic plan, the annual budget and other important issues.

"We want you to get fired up about NAA and what we are doing for you, the professionals in the apartment industry," Sharp said. "NM. wants all affiliates to be well informed, especially board members and association executives. Judging from the attendance and discussions we had, this was a major success."

NAA intends to hold these meetings in each region in 2007 in conjunction with state and local affiliate meetings, when possible.

Southern Nevada Hosts Market Trends Conference

The Southern Nevada Multi-Housing Association (SNMA) hosted Market Trends 2006 on Feb. 22 at the Stardust Hotel and Casino Convention Center. Its theme this year was "Where is this market taking you?"

The event included a continental breakfast hosted by 2006 SNMA President Dana Murrah. Conference speakers included Greg Willett, Vice President, Research and Analysis, M/PF YieldStar, who discussed the economy, job gain, new housing, condo conversions, individual investors and annual rent growth.

Other hot topics discussed were new home construction, finding qualified employees, land prices, employee retention and rental rates.

The closing speaker was Terri Norvell of The Inner Prize, who discussed how to inspire action and lasting change throughout organizations.
