A heartfelt thank you to Msgr. Foy for his article on the Winnipeg Statement The Winnipeg Statement is the Canadian Bishops' Statement on the Encyclical Humanae Vitae from a Plenary Assembly held at Saint Boniface in Winnipeg, Manitoba. . As a Billings Ovulation Method The Billings ovulation method (BOM) is a method which women use to monitor their fertility, by identifying when they are fertile and when they are infertile during each menstrual cycle.  instructor, I am well aware of how deeply the contraceptive mentality has taken hold. Most people are thoroughly convinced that it is perfectly fine to use their "conscience" and have no desire whatsoever to hear about natural family planning natural family planning Biological birth control Any FP that does not rely on artificial agents–eg, OCs, 'morning-after' pill, spermicidal foam, RU-486 or devices–eg, condoms, diaphragms, IUDs to prevent conception Methods Rhythm–calendar method, , or to further their understanding of the magisterial mag·is·te·ri·al

Humanae vitae Humanae Vitae (Latin "Of Human Life") is an encyclical written by Pope Paul VI and promulgated on July 25, 1968. Subtitled "On the Regulation of Birth", it re-affirms the traditional teaching of the Roman Catholic Church regarding abortion, contraception, and other issues  echoes "Thy will be done," as opposed to the "My will be done" of the Winnipeg Statement.

One can clearly see the hand of God in the development of the Billings. Ovulation Method. The "yes" of Dr. John and Lyn Billings has led to the most scientifically researched, yet simple to use natural family planning method, which is now taught and practised in over 100 countries around the world. It is evident that grace abounds in this couple and the fruits of their lifetime labour of love will last forever.

How very important it is today that whenever and wherever the truth of Humanae vitae is taught, the life-line of the Billings Ovulation Method be offered to couples. All Catholics need to be encouraged not to be afraid of letting go of contraception to embrace natural family planning. Learn from the School of Mary and trust that through your "yes" God will grant you all the graces, wisdom and insight you need to practise it.

Natural family planning is a way of "life;" a way of "love" that promotes good communication, respect and dignity, and always leads to a greater love for the sanctity of life and the sanctity of parenthood. It does require sacrifice at times, but is that not always an important part of the sacrament of marriage and married love?

Because the reality of contraception and its abortifacient abortifacient /abor·ti·fa·cient/ (ah-bor?ti-fa´shent)

2. an agent that induces abortion.

effect is so shocking to many couples, it is very important that all who spread the light of Truth of Humanae vitae and natural family planning do so with the incredible love and gentleness of Jesus and Mary.
