Mystery men. (L.A. Stories). There seems to be no limit to the marketing machine behind "The Matrix: Reloaded." During a Dodgers game on the film's first weekend, a dozen stone faced men in charcoal suits and dark sunglasses sat stiffly in two rows on the field level, occasionally tilting their heads and adjusting Secret Service-like earpieces. About half way through the game, a commercial for "Matrix" appeared on the leftfield scoreboard and the stadium cameras were trained on the dark-suited crew, who, keeping their deadpan looks, produced bottles of Powerade from below their seats. A call to Warner Bros. failed to reveal the origins of the men, who were obviously patterned on the ubiquitous "agents" in the film. The actors, it happens, were hired by Coca-Cola Co., whose Powerade is a marketing partner of Warner Bros. "Coke arranged for them to come to the game," said Derrick Hall, Dodgers senior vice president. "It got a lot of people's attention." |
