) - Japanese market researcher MyVoice Communications has announced the results of its recent survey on oral hygiene.

The company conducted a survey of 13,741 people (46% men, 54% women) via the Internet from June 1 to 5. Of the respondents, about 30% go for regular dental checkups. In terms of frequency, 4.5% get a checkup at least once every three months, 9.0% once every six months and 14.8% once a year.

Regarding dental problems they are concerned about, 44.8% of respondents mention the accumulation of tartar and plaque, followed by tooth pigmentation or discoloration (34.4%), gum problems including periodontal disease (32.7%), and bad teeth alignment and malocclusion Malocclusion Definition

Malocclusion is a problem in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together in biting or chewing. The word malocclusion literally means "bad bite.
 (32.6%). The respondents are most concerned about the three following problems: dental caries caries
 or tooth decay

When asked what measures the respondents take for relieving those problems, 17.8% said that they use a toothpaste appropriate for their symptoms, 16.9% answered that they go to a dentist or orthodontist orthodontist /or·tho·don·tist/ (-don´tist) a dentist who specializes in orthodontics.

When asked what they use to brush their teeth, 83.2% mentioned a toothbrush, followed by a toothpaste (51.3%), dental floss (22.9%) and mouthwash mouthwash /mouth·wash/ (mouth´wosh) a solution for rinsing the mouth.
