When I got out of the military in 1972 and tried to figure out how to meet other gay men, I thought I'd rather live any other place besides hometown Louisville, Ky. As a gay mecca, it just wasn't happening. But after meeting a few men and discovering the bars, I realized very quickly how wrong that notion was.
