Muzak Selects Shoreline VoIP System for National Communications Network; Shoreline IP PBXs Reduce Costs, Simplify Voice System Management.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 2003

Muzak LLC, the world's leading provider of music and messaging for commercial and retail environments, has begun deploying voice-over-IP technology from Shoreline Communications to create a single, seamless telephone system for 1,200 employees in more than 40 offices.

Muzak worked with Computer Network Power LLC, a leading Shoreline channel partner and voice/data network integration services company based in Charlotte, N.C. (www.cnp.net), to implement the Shoreline IP Phone System at the 350-employee headquarters in Fort Mill, S.C. and at 18 affiliate offices thus far. Five of the remaining installations will be completed this year with the rest slated for next year.

The Shoreline equipment, known for its strong multi-site strengths, is replacing a myriad of different systems because Muzak is highly regionalized and conducts frequent inter-site calls and conferences.

"With the hodge-podge of different phone systems we had, we couldn't do trunk-to-trunk transfers or leave voicemails for other sites," said Dave Thompson, Muzak's director of information technology. "Long-distance bills were huge, and every move or change meant a long wait for services and charges of more than $100. Shoreline is saving Muzak a lot of money."

Muzak evaluated a number of VoIP systems and chose Shoreline because it's the easiest solution in terms of installation, management and everyday use. "Shoreline is user-friendly and easy to learn," said Thompson. In addition, the Shoreline system enables Muzak to have streaming media while customers are "on hold," an important feature that supports Muzak's business.

Shoreline reduces Muzak's total cost of ownership of its phone system in several ways. New hires can be added into the system without any additional charges, employees can use four-digit extension dialing between sites and multi-hour sales meetings can be held without toll charges. Shoreline's support for standard analog phones allows Muzak to use inexpensive handsets in such areas as warehousing and shipping.
