Benedict is the regnal name of the current Roman pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI (2005–present) and has been the name of fourteen other popes (and three antipopes):
  • Pope Benedict I (575–579)
 during a talk at the University of Regensburg The University of Regensburg, situated in Regensburg, in Bavaria, Germany, was founded on July 18 1962 by the Bavarian parliament. Bavaria's fourth university saw its first lectures during the 1967-68 winter semester , initially housing a faculty of Law and Business Sciences as  on September 12. In his weekly audience on September 22 the pope acknowledged his remarks were open to misinterpretation and expressed the hope that the misunderstanding could lead to further dialogue.
