Joyce Theater The Joyce Theater is a 472-seat dance performance venue located in the Chelsea area of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The Joyce Theater Foundation, the organization founded in 1982 that operates the theater, also owns the Joyce SoHo dance center located in a May 16-20, it will perform Requiem requiem (rĕk`wēəm, rē`–, rā`–) [Lat.,=rest], proper Mass for the souls of the dead, performed on All Souls' Day and at funerals. , an American premiere
to that score. "I think it's one of the 20th century's
most powerful works," Wellenkamp said recently. Britten wrote it in
1940 in reaction to the developing menace of the war. "I waited to
find the right occasion," said Wellenkamp. "It came in 2001,
when I, too, felt the menace of war. The driving, emotionally charged
score suits the theme and my wonderfully expressive dancers." See
