During 2002 there were seven musically based companies; Today, there are 17 companies, including recording labels, music studios, music engineers, and composers. The waterfront Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO draws an artistic crowd. Before DUMBO became the 'hot' residential and commercial community it is now, artists filled the warehouses. And while the artists who continue to work in DUMBO are some of the East Coast's most creative, a new breed of artists is arriving--the indy recording industry.
