Murray Dranoff Foundation Names Celebrated Pianist Edward Turgeon Artistic Director.MIAMI Miami, cities, United States Miami (mīăm`ē, –ə). 1 City (1990 pop. 358,548), seat of Dade co., SE Fla., on Biscayne Bay at the mouth of the Miami River; inc. 1896. -- The Murray Dranoff Foundation, sponsor of the Miami-based biennial Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition, today announced the appointment of Dr. Edward Turgeon as artistic director. A celebrated pianist and respected university educator, Mr. Turgeon will direct artistic planning for the next Dranoff International Two Piano Competition and provide oversight to the Foundation on all artistic matters. The Dranoff International Two Piano Competition, which has awarded almost $500,000 in competition prizes to top duo-pianist teams from around the world since its founding, will be held next in March, 2008 in Miami. "Edward Turgeon is the ideal candidate to provide artistic direction to the Dranoff Foundation as we enter our third decade," commented Carlene Sawyer, executive director, Murray Dranoff Foundation. "He is respected internationally for his creative abilities and his deep dedication to performance training. As a Dranoff laureate he brings a unique perspective to our global outreach to young performers and as one of the world's leading duo-pianists he will help to ensure our continued high standards and sustained growth." Mr. Turgeon is well known in the classical music world as a celebrated chamber musician and a member of the piano duo "Duo Turgeon" with his wife Anne Louise Turgeon. Duo Turgeon was the Dranoff competition 1997 Winner. Mr. Turgeon's responsibilities will include commissioning an original Two Piano composition that will be premiered at the 2008 Competition and selection of members who will comprise the competition judging panel. In addition to his performing career, which has included hundreds of concerts including those at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and Music Toronto, Mr. Turgeon is a respected university pedagogue. He currently serves as Professor of Music, Ensemble-in-residence member, and Director of Chamber Music at Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters The Dorothy F.
