Multiple choice: a Pensacola, Fla., scrap recycler uses its Fuchs MHL 350 for a variety of tasks.

When Gene Rosenbaum, president of Southern Scrap Co. Inc., was shopping for a hydraulic scrap handler, he knew he would need a versatile machine.

Rosenbaum is glad he selected a Terex Fuchs MHL 350, which has been able to do everything Rosenbaum has asked, and more.

"We use it for multi-purpose tasks," says Rosenbaum, whose Pensacola, Fla., company has been in the scrap recycling business for 70-plus years.

During those decades, Rosenbaum says the Company, "has never had a piece of equipment as versatile as this." He notes that the hydraulic handler is used to handle ferrous and nonferrous materials. "We load and unload with it; we also stage and prep material with it. It is quite versatile--we keep it running all day."

The company processes its scrap with a guillotine shear and a baler and uses the Fuchs machine to move scrap near this equipment and to its torching area.

"We also use it for sorting," says Rosenbaum, who notes that the machine is outfitted at various times with either a magnet or a grapple. The sorting is done with a five-tine grapple from Fuchs that "allows the operator to pick up the smallest pieces of scrap and sort them out," Rosenbaum says.

In addition to its versatility, Rosenbaum says his Fuchs scrap handler is reliable and is highly regarded by its operators because of its stable platform of solid tires with accompanying footers; its easy-to use controls; and its comfortable, elevated cab.

"The elevated cab is perfect," he adds. "Being able to see what is being loaded and un loaded improves productivity."

Southern Scrap spent considerable time shopping for its scrap handler before settling on the Fuchs MHL 350 two years ago. "The Terex Fuchs reputation and the referrals were very good. We contacted a number of scrap processors and went to their yards and found that they were happy," Rosenbaum notes. "I'd also say sales representation was honest and sincere from both Fuchs and the Warrior Equipment dealer. They did not exaggerate in terms of what we could expect."

Rosenbaum says his company works its Fuchs machine hard, but it has consistently answered the call. "We run it practically all day long because we're constantly loading for shipment and constantly unloading. But repair and maintenance factors are minimal."
