 Inc. national referendum-style survey which indicates where Canadians stand on the issue of world-sourced television broadcasting and its availability in Canada.

The key findings are that:

- 90% of Canadians believe that it is of "national importance" for
    all Canadians to have equal access to information and programming
    from around the world;

- 80% believe that Canadians should have access to an international
    television service delivering public affairs to dramatic
    programming from around the world;

- 81% believe that the CRTC (the Canadian Radio-Television and
    Telecommunications Commission) should make available such an
    international service "without delay."

"Although the new digital pay and specialty licenses disclosed recently include a wide array of choice, none adequately address the overwhelming demand of WTM's service, as demonstrated in the results of this survey - the latest in a series dating back to 1996 ", says Dan Iannuzzi, WTM's President and Executive Producer. Anna Chiappa, Executive Director of the Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC (Central Electronic Complex) The set of hardware that defines a mainframe, which includes the CPU(s), memory, channels, controllers and power supplies included in the box. Some CECs, such as IBM's Multiprise 2000 and 3000, include data storage devices as well. ) agrees: "The COMPAS report only proves what we've known for years."

WTM is a national multicultural/international television network in English and French. The original application was previously denied by the CRTC primarily for technical carriage reasons. As a result, WTM recently refiled its application with a revised analog/digital distribution model to address cable industry opposition.

"WTM has the power to draw viewers and subscribers", says Kerry Johnston, WTM's Senior Vice President, "and act as a springboard for the distribution of other services. Regardless of language, heritage, culture, or technical limitations, WTM will serve the large 'new mainstream' of 15 million who want access to the globe's diversity. And, WTM's Canadian productions - the heart of its mandate - will reflect Canada's own diversity through independently produced programs."

Adds Chiappa, "This independent service belongs on our broadcasting system which is already proliferated with direct and indirect US programming. The CEC represents millions of Canadians, and we will continue to support WTM for their dedication to cultural diversity and commitment to utilizing the wealth of Canadian talent."
