Multimedia CD-ROMs add new dimension to Bellcore training portfolio; 70 new media-based training products due out.
A major publisher of media-based telecommunications training alternatives, Bellcore is complementing its fast-growing video and computer-based training (CBT) product lines that make training available anytime, anywhere.
The multimedia products launch an aggressive expansion of offerings delivered to customers in formats other than traditional instructor-led lectures and group exercises. By 1997, Bellcore will have introduced 70 new alternative training products into the global marketplace, making a total portfolio of over 160.
"We're responding to customers who tell us they need training that is high-impact, content-rich, and available when and where they need it," said Pat Cataldo, vice president of Bellcore's Learning Services organization. "Our CD-ROMs are interesting and interactive while delivering quality of content and ease of use. With each program presenting 60 compelling minutes of combined video, graphics, audio, and text on today's telecom technology, learning is efficient and exciting."
"Bellcore's definition of interactivity goes beyond the `page turner' approach, creatively making extensive use of games, case studies, and self-assessments related to the material at hand," Cataldo explained. "These interactive features give users a high degree of control over their learning experience, enabling them to use training in an appealing way that is relevant to their individual job needs and learning styles."
To meet various individual needs, Bellcore has divided each program into topics that learners can directly access via a content outline or alphabetical index. In addition, each CD-ROM includes the added value of a technical glossary specific to the program topic.
New CD-ROM training is now available on:
-- Internet: Fundamentals
-- ISDN: Applications Considerations and Implementation
-- Telecommunications Overview: Network Evolution &
-- Wireless Communications: Technologies & Applications
-- The TIRKS(R) System: An Overview
-- Broadband: Interconnection Considerations for the Enterprise
Two additional CD-ROMs on broadband are soon to be released. In addition to the eight new CD-ROMs, Bellcore is adding 40 new videotapes and 22 new CBTs to its family of training products. The video offerings encompass emerging technology, telecommunications overview, feature interaction, consumer market research, and optical networks. The CBT curriculum, which is easily incorporated into local networks, covers basic telephony, wireless, and video technology. Both video and CBT formats are available with site and corporate licenses for significant savings and convenience to training administrators.
