SOMERSET, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2002

Multilink Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: MLTC MLTC Modern Languages Teaching Centre (University of Sheffield, UK)
MLTC Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition
MLTC Mixed Leukocyte/Tumor Cell Cultures
), a leading provider of advanced semiconductor-based solutions that accelerate the deployment of high-speed optical networks, proudly announces its first 40 Gb/s chipset, the MTC mtc - A Modula-2 to C translator.

These low jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle , high-speed devices have been designed using Silicon Germanium (SiGe) A semiconductor material made from silicon and germanium. Germanium is very similar to silicon, but when one layer is grown on top of the other to form the base of the transistor, the resulting transistor can switch faster and yield higher performance.  (SiGe) process technology for superior electrical performance and extended data rate range up to 50 Gb/s. The MTC1307 and MTC1308 chipset addresses the increasing customer demand for reliable, cost-effective, high-performance integrated circuits suitable for next-generation prototype and experimental systems.

"The main driver for next generation high-speed optical networks is to reduce cost and size while maintaining the same excellent standards our customers have come to expect from Multilink's components," said Dr. Jens N. Albers, Executive Vice-President and Co-Chairman of Multilink. "Where others have selected expensive Indium Phosphide phosphide

, Multilink has been able to achieve extremely low jitter with reduced power consumption at 40 Gb/s using the more economical and reliable SiGe technology. Multilink is focusing its design expertise and technology on high performance 40 Gb/s solutions for large-scale integration, and high volume delivery while ensuring cost-efficiency to the benefit of our customers."

The MTC1307 serializes four 10 (12.5) Gb/s data channels into a single 40 (50) Gb/s channel, and the MTC1308 is the equivalent deserializer device. Operating at -3.6 V, these SiGe devices have the low power consumption of less than 2.6 and 2.9 W respectively. As a consequence of fast rise and fall times (Less than 10 ps), very low rms-jitter (Less than 0.7 ps) and well-matched broadband output buffers, the electrical eye-diagram of the MUX is very clear and open. Main device attributes of the DMUX are high-sensitivity input buffer (Less than 50 mVpp), threshold adjust, flexible timing control, and error-free operation up to 50 Gb/s, maintained for long random bit sequences (PRBS PRBS Pseudo-Random Binary Sequence
PRBS Pseudo Random Bit Sequence
PRBS Pseudorandom Bit Stream (Hekimian)
PRBS Probability Random Bit Sequence

, pattern length of 2(31)-1).

Availability:

The MTC1307 and MTC1308 chipset, available on an evaluation platform, is sampling to customers designing prototype systems and modules. First customer results demonstrate that the device implementation is enhancing their system performance. A live demonstration during the 2002 Optical Fiber Communication conference in Anaheim (March 2002) provided alpha customers the opportunity to verify the superior performance of these integrated circuits. The extended operating range (20 to 50 Gb/s) on the feature list is a major selection criterion for test equipment manufacturers.
