Multi-Corp -- Hongkong Telecom to Distribute Zi Mail.

CALGARY, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1997--Multi-Corp Inc. (TSE, ASE:MCU; NASDAQ:MCUAF) is pleased to announce that two divisions of Hongkong Telecom ("HKT") are to distribute the Company's Zi Mail product.

This relationship was initially announced by Multi-Corp in a press release on Oct. 28, 1996. In said release, HKT had agreed to purchase 25,000 units of Zi Mail with training and support for US$450,000 subject to a successful market test of HKT's Internet Starter Pack. HKT has advised Zi Corporation that all testing has been completed to their satisfaction.

(1) HKT IMS Internet Business Solutions, Hongkong Telecom's Internet Service provider delivering total solutions to business customers, is to roll-out their Internet Starter Pack for small to medium size enterprises in Hong Kong. HKT IMS Internet Business Solutions have prepaid for 2,000 Zi Mail licenses and have advised that they are initially targeting 80,000 small to medium size businesses over the next twelve months. In addition to Zi Mail, HKT IMS Internet Business Solutions has advised that their Internet Starter Pack is to include an IBM personal computer, an ISDN connection, and an Internet browser.

(2) HKT IMS Netvigator, Hongkong Telecom's Internet Service Provider targeting dial-up Internet users, is to distribute Zi Mail through their Internet website at www.netvigator.com . Subscribers of HKT IMS Netvigator and others visiting their website can download and use Zi Mail on a free trial basis for a period of 60 days. After this period, subscribers can purchase Zi Mail for a retail price of US$49.

The terms of the agreement announced on Oct. 28, 1996 between HKT and Zi Corporation have changed. It has been agreed between the two companies, that instead of receiving payment up-front for US$450,000 from HKT, Zi Corporation is to invoice HKT IMS Internet Business Solutions for the number of business customers buying an Internet Starter Pack which includes Zi Mail during a given month. In return, Zi Corporation is to supply Zi Mail at a higher price than what was agreed to in October, 1996. HKT IMS Netvigator is a commissioned-based distributor only.

Zi Mail uses Zi Input, a Chinese character input system that is simple to learn and easy to use. PC World Hong Kong named Zi Mail as "Best Buy" for Chinese email software because it "provides the best Chinese language support" (March 1997 issue). Zi Mail was awarded a four star rating by PC World.
