Mulholland, Doane Named Executive Vice Presidents of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.


HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1998--C. Bradley Mulholland and W. Allen Doane have been named executive vice presidents of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (A&B), announced A&B chairman, president and chief executive officer Robert J. Pfeiffer.

Mulholland is president and chief executive officer of Matson Navigation Company Matson Navigation Company, a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin, is a private ocean transportation company with roots extending into the late 19th century. It is credited with introducing mass tourism to Hawaii with the opening of the Moana Hotel (now known as the Moana Surfrider Hotel) , Inc. (Matson), and Doane is president and chief executive officer of A&B-Hawaii, Inc. (ABHI). Matson and ABHI are A&B's principal subsidiaries. With this action, effective Aug. 27, A&B now has three executive vice presidents -- Mulholland and Doane join Glenn R. Rogers, who was promoted to the position on July 1, 1997.

Rogers is A&B's chief financial officer and treasurer as well as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of ABHI.

In making the announcement, Pfeiffer said, "Allen Doane and Brad Mulholland have been significant contributors to this company, displaying outstanding leadership of A&B's two principal subsidiaries during some verychallenging times. Their hard work, experience and vision have been invaluable in setting a strategic course for A&B's future.

Doane joined ABHI as executive vice president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

 in 1991. He was named ABHI president in 1995 and CEO in 1997. Before coming to A&B, Doane had been chief operating officer of The Shidler Group, a nationally prominent real estate investment/management firm.

Prior to that, he was group vice president of IU International Corporation (former parent company of C. Brewer and Company, Limited) from 1985 to 1988. He joined C. Brewer in 1975, and held management positions both in Honolulu and in Philadelphia, the corporate headquarters of IU.

Doane serves as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years. Mulholland has been Matson president since 1990 and CEO since 1992. He joined the company in 1965 as an assistant booking clerk. Mulholland was made a vice president of Matson in 1979; he was promoted to senior vice president in 1983. In 1986, Mulholland was named president of Matson Terminals, Inc. He was promoted to executive vice president of Matson Navigation Company in 1988.

He was named chief operating officer in 1989 and was appointed to the A&B board of directors in 1991.
