This article deals with Muhammad 'Afifi Matar's children's stories, tracing the roots of their conception and the ideas behind their themes. It analyzes a number of representative tales that outline Matar's ideas on education, including man as all possibilities, the sanctity of the teacher-pupil relationship, the function of storytelling in awakening the senses to learning, encouraging children to rise to the challenge of demanding learning, and the value of using history to defy collective memory loss.
