Every good story requires a strong beginning, middle, and end. Alas, on his second artist album, U.K. superstar DJ-remixer Paul Oakenfoid nails only two thirds of the formula. The 12-track set kicks off with a bang: The bump-and-grind electro-rock of "Faster Kill Pussycat puss·y·cat

 Brittany Murphy, screams out to be the number 1 pole-dancing song of 2006. And the closer, "Feed Your Mind," recalls the carefree baggy-pants-and-MDMA heyday of late-'80s British rave. But the 10 tunes between those bookends often fall short. Cheesy cheesy (che´ze) caseous.  club cuts like "Save the Last Trance for Me" lack the killer hooks of Oakenfold's best (i.e., "Not Over Yet" by Grace), and promising cameos prove pointless; Grandmaster Flash's contribution to "Set It Off" seems to be just a sampled cell phone greeting. This Lively Mind displays occasional wit but isn't as brilliant as it wishes.
