Mozart wrote all five of his violin concertos when he was just turning 20; because he loathed the job he held then as violinist to the archbishop, he never returned to the form.

The overture to "La Finta Giardiniera" comes from Mozart's love of opera. Also composed when he was 19, the music was written for an Italian comic opera to be performed in the court theater in Munich. It was received well.

"Thank God! My opera ... went so well that I cannot possibly describe to Mama how great the noise was," Mozart wrote.

Finally, the 40th Symphony is one of Mozart's best known works.

He composed it - along with the 39th and 41st symphonies - in an extraordinary blizzard of work during a few weeks in 1788.
