NAA delegate and long time Houston and Texas Apartment Association member Kenneth J. Bohan, CPC, CTS, President of The Liberty Group, an NAA member, was the 2001 recipient of the Harold B. Nelson Award. It is the highest individual honor presented to a personnel industry professional by the National Association of Personnel Services (NAPS), The Nelson Award is given to one professional each year in recognition of persistent and outstanding service that has led the industry to a higher ground through innovation, vision and positive advancements.

Bohan, whose companies specialize in serving the multifamily real estate industry for more than 20 years, served on the NAPS Board of Directors, as well as on the Executive Committee as Vice Chairman. He has also been very active with the Houston area and Texas Associations of Personnel Consultants, having served in leadership positions, including President. As President and CEO of the Liberty Group in Houston, Bohan has created a group of companies that specialize in servicing the real estate industry and related fields, including accounting, IT and administrative services, through Liberty Executive Search, Liberty Staffing Services, and Liberty-IT.

EMG announced that Jeff Boggs joined the firm as Technical Director, Environmental Services. Boggs will be responsible for the company's environmental equity program, as well as all enhanced and expanded services, such as Phase II investigations, desk reviews, subsurface investigations and other field services.

Boggs brings to EMG experience in consulting from a varied background. He has worked for both regional and national companies with responsibilities ranging from strong technical support to clients and internal staff, to proposal and contract negotiation relating to business development, through to construction management. He has many years of environmental experience working for such companies as Deconstructor's Inc., The Driggs Group, Geo-Technology Associates Inc. and Aerosol Monitoring and Analysis of Maryland.

NAA member GMAC Commercial Mortgage Co. announced the promotion of Samuel Kirschner to Senior Vice President, responsible for the company's New York City loan origination office. Kirschner joined GMACCM in July 1999 as head of the New York office, which is responsible for originating all GMACCM product types. Before joining GMACCM Kirschner was an Executive for Daiwa Securities in their CMBS finance group.

NAA member Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. announced the addition of Maria Staton as an Area Manager of the company's central region, with responsibility for more than 2,000 apartment homes in the Memphis, Tenn., area. Staton has more than 15 years of experience in multifamily housing management. She served Mid-America's predecessor, the Cates Co., from 1977-1981, and again from 1985-1991 in a number of roles, including Regional Manager. Prior to rejoining MAA, Staton held various management roles for BridgeStreet Corporate Homing and Ledic Management Group Inc.
