Movaz Networks Unveils Product Portfolio for Wavelength Management Across Access, Metro & Regional Networks.

Business Editors

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2001

Company's Integrated Product Approach Will Redefine Optical Network

Economics to Deliver High-Bandwidth Wavelengths at Significantly

Reduced Cost

Movaz Networks Inc. announced today the successful completion of two alpha trials -- one conducted at a customer lab and one conducted "live" between two central office facilities.

With the availability of the alpha equipment, Movaz is introducing a new optical connectivity product line for access, metro and regional service providers, under the portfolio trademark of RAY.

The RAY product portfolio contains three interoperable products to provide integrated wavelength transport, switching and management capabilities at unprecedented price points. The RAYexpress(TM) is a 5.5-inch (15 cm) high Optical Add Drop Multiplexer ideally suited for customer premise applications. The RAYstar(TM) combines optical transport and wavelength routing functions in a single seven-foot bay for deployments in edge, core and hub central offices. The RAYtracer(TM) is a network management system that provides a Graphical User Interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
for simplified point and click wavelength provisioning.

With these features, the RAY product portfolio will create intelligent wavelength delivery systems to promote dynamic bandwidth allocations Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) is a technique by which traffic bandwidth in a shared telecommunications medium can be allocated on demand and fairly between different users of that bandwidth.  and new services, such as optical virtual private networks.

"To create a wavelength class of service for the access, metro and regional networks and to differentiate it from the ultra long-haul area, we have concentrated on the flexibility required to transport and route wavelengths through the networks to enable faster service delivery and building an economic case for universal deployments," said Bijan Khosravi, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and Chairman of Movaz Networks. "Through extensive integration and innovative re-use of components in both hardware and software, the RAY product portfolio enables wavelengths to be transported and managed with the same degree of flexibility as today's STS-1s."

"The metro marketplace is progressing towards high bandwidth, wavelength services, but to date the technology has been price prohibitive to deploy," said Grier Hansen, Optical Infrastructure Analyst, Current Analysis.

"Movaz's emphasis on integrating signaling, routing and photonic switching gives them a necessary set of tools needed to drive down the costs of wavelength provisioning in the metro and open up that market for optical services."
