Movaz Networks Inc., a company developing integrated optical transport and switching products for metro networks, today announced general availability of its RAYexpress(TM) SONET/SDH & Wavelength Service Platform and revenue shipments of the RAYexpress to customers in Europe and Asia.

The RAYexpress is a cost optimized solution for a variety of applications including aggregated SONET and SDH services, Ethernet data services for OVPN (optical virtual private networks), SANs (storage area networks) and Enterprise Gigabit Ethernet transport, and Managed Wavelength service delivery. Its footprint and density are scalable from a single shelf deployment to configurations with 10 shelves in a single 7-foot bay, capable of delivering up to 400 Gbps of capacity. Deployed in conjunction with the RAYextender(TM) line and post amplifier product, also now generally available, the RAYexpress can serve not only the metro edge and metro access, but also metro core and regional applications, spanning over 600 km.

Movaz also recently announced a strategic manufacturing agreement with Flextronics for volume production of the RAYexpress. "Coinciding with Movaz's product being generally available, we have deployed a significant amount of resources, both technical and logistical, to respond to increasing demand requirements, stated E.C. Sykes, General Manager of Flextronics. "We are now even more closely integrated with the Movaz team to ensure seamless order fulfillment and on-demand delivery of the RAYexpress."

To follow up on its success with the RAYexpress, Movaz Networks is also shipping its ultra high-density RAYstar(TM) product for customer beta trials this month. The RAYstar provides integrated transport and switching capabilities from a single 7-foot bay and eliminates the need for back-to-back terminals and external crossconnects. Additionally, network resource discovery, inter-nodal signaling and wavelength routing are achieved through the embedded GMPLS (RAYo/s)(TM) control plane. This greatly facilitates network restoration and reduces redundant equipment build outs. The RAYstar is the first such product to be available commercially.
