In your Editor's Note "A Drumbeat of Fear" (April issue), you observe Bush's use of an odd phrase, "We thought oceans would protect us."

Bizarre and erroneous, indeed. Your response to Bush's strange howler is the first I've seen. How sad that Bush has somehow reduced the tragedy of 9/11 to this spectacular noninterpretation, this mouthful of hooey hoo·ey
