Mountain Creek reaches preservation agreement with state.

Lorne Bassel, executive vice president, Resort Development for resort owner Intrawest Corporation, said, "This cooperative agreement will protect more than 1,800 scenic acres. This is an example of the State government, local community groups and business coming together to reach a consensus that benefits everyone. This agreement supports our vision of an outstanding resort in a setting of natural beauty -- a setting further enhanced by the preservation of the highlands for all to enjoy."

The sale and donation clears the way for the 10-year, multi-million-dollar resort transformation project to resume on lands owned by the resort at the base of the mountain.

Bassel affirmed that Mountain Creek will continue to provide its visitors with an experience that combines the amenities of a resort village with the natural beauty of mountain wilderness Mountain Wilderness is an international movement aiming at protection of mountains in all their aspects, with emphasis on value of wilderness and "authentic mountain experience". It was founded in 1987 in Biella by a group of mountaineers. . Mountain Creek Resort currently operates skiing activities on part of the land donated and sold to the state. Under the agreement, Mountain Creek reserves rights to maintain and enhance existing ski trails and to expand ski operations.

Added Bassel, "We are pleased to be able to move forward on this resort which blends in with its surroundings and comports with the state's desire to save open space in New Jersey's forestlands."
