Motorola to OEM V-ONE's SmartGate VPN.

V-ONE(R) Corp. (Nasdaq:VONE), the market leaders in client/server Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, Thursday announced that the Information Security Solutions and Products Division (ISSPD) of Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has signed an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) agreement to include copies of V-ONE's SmartGate(R) VPN product as part of their CipherNET(R) Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) offering.

The agreement, the second transacted between the two companies this year, follows an engineering pact whereby V-ONE committed to extend their wireline VPN technology, Air SmartGate(TM) to include Motorola's PageWriter 2000 - a two-way pager. ISSPD, Motorola's complex systems integration supplier, provides both internal and external networking solutions.

Perhaps SmartGate's most significant advantage for large corporations is its patented On-Line Registration (OLR) method of client deployment. This enables efficient rollout of the SmartGate client software, SmartPass(R), to a large number of users, a feature particularly important to large enterprises.

Users can download the client from a secured website in minutes, eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming conventional deployment methods while easing the burden on systems administrators.

SmartGate VPN runs on a variety of platforms, including Windows NT from Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT), HP-UX from Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP), Solaris from Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq:SUNW) and BSD Unix. SmartGate perfectly complements network firewalls, including products from Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKPF), Axent Technologies (Nasdaq:AXNT), Network Associates (Nasdaq:NETA), IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Cisco Systems (Nasdaq:CSCO).

Motorola's line of PKI security solutions includes the CipherNET 1000 Certificate Authority 2.0 and Registrar 2.0. This web-based system features the flexibility of offering buyers the choice of highly secure RSA or ECC elliptic curve technology and runs in a convenient, "lights out" mode.

In Nov. 1998, the analyst firm Frost & Sullivan published a study titled U.S. Virtual Private Network Markets which confirmed V-ONE's leading market position -- first among 19 vendors. The study showed V-ONE with 60% market share in the Encryption and Authentication category of the software VPN market, nearly three times as much as its nearest competitor.

The study also forecasts years of strong growth for the overall software VPN market, which it expects to continue expanding at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 76% between 1997-2004. According to Frost & Sullivan, the total market for all VPN products is expected to reach $1.26 billion by 2004.
