(2) (Systems Management Server) Systems management software from Microsoft that runs on Windows NT Server. ) in its CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. (Code Division Multiple Access) digital networks. Motorola CIG has installed the messaging service on all of the commercial CDMA systems it has deployed, including seven of the new PrimeCo Personal Communications, L.P. markets recently launched throughout the U.S. AirTouch Communications was the first Motorola CIG customer to commercially launch SMS on its CDMA network in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . The messaging service is also available on the AirTouch network in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. As a standard feature of Motorola CIG's CDMA infrastructure network, SMS will continue to be rolled out in 1997 in other CDMA networks worldwide. With this new service, cellular subscribers can receive alphanumeric messages displayed on their wireless phones. The Motorola SMS system will enable subscribers to receive voice mail notification, digital pages, custom short text messages and informational services like stock quotes, sports scores, weather and traffic. With CDMA digital technology, Motorola CIG's digital SMS provides enhancements over its analog messaging service, including longer text messages, time stamp of messages, urgent message indication and voice mail message count. The SMS capability is also used with Motorola CIG's Wireless Internet Service so cellular subscribers can access Internet e-mail and other informational services from their wireless phone. Motorola's SMS provides cellular operators with the opportunity to broaden their services portfolios and increase airtime usage, while giving subscribers access to personalized and convenient management of their communications. SMS is enabled through the implementation of Motorola CIG's Message Register Short Message Service Center and the cellular switch to provide a data-like information pipeline for enabling a variety of different applications. The Message Register resides on a fault-tolerant Tandem computer platform and is designed for open network architecture with its Cellular Digital Messaging Protocol interface. Motorola CIG's SMS for CDMA is in compliance with the IS-637 standard for cellular CDMA SMS Mobile Terminated Point to Point messaging services and works with all IS-95 approved CDMA phones. Motorola CIG was the first to introduce SMS for NAMPS NAMPS Narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service NAMPS Night-Attack Mission Planning System NAMPS Navy Manpower Programming System NAMPS Narrowband Analog Mobile Phone Service (Narrowband AMPS) systems in 1992.
