Certicom Elliptic Curve In mathematics, an elliptic curve is a smooth, projective algebraic curve of genus one, on which there is a specified point O. An elliptic curve is in fact an abelian variety—that is, it has a multiplication defined algebraically with respect to which it is an  Engine to Provide Strong,

Certicom Corp., a leading provider of cryptographic technologies, today announced that Motorola's Information Security Division (ISD See IDD. ) has licensed the Certicom Elliptic Curve Engine, (CE)2, from Certicom to provide standards-based elliptic curve authentication, digital signatures and encryption for future Motorola CipherNet(R) security software.

"Motorola is a leader in the information security market and the CipherNet product line is Motorola's premier commercial software security solution," said Philip C. Deck, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Certicom. "Certicom and Motorola have enjoyed a long-standing and productive relationship. We're pleased that Motorola has chosen Certicom's cryptographic technologies to meet its security requirements for speed and strength."

"We believe Certicom is the authority on elliptic curve cryptography See ECC. , with the strongest, fastest implementations available," said Erling Rasmussen, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Information Security Division. "Our decision to build the Certicom Elliptic Curve Engine into future CipherNet products is based on customer needs and the advanced security it provides."

Certicom has developed the Certicom Elliptic Curve Engine, (CE)2 -- a stronger, faster, smaller engine that performs public-key encryption and generates digital signatures for advanced data security. (CE)2 is available for software, firmware and integrated circuit implementations, and is particularly well suited for constrained environments such as smart cards, wireless devices and high-transaction servers.
