Motorcyclists bear gifts for homeless.

Byline: Jim Feehan The Register-Guard

Noah and Joseph Pink had settled for a long winter's nap Saturday when out in the parking lot there arose the clutter of 30 leather-clad motorcycle gang members bearing toys and clothing.

Not to fear, this wasn't some outlaw gang of bikers, but members of Cruizers for Christ, a Christian motorcycle group, and bikers from Clean and Sober Motorcycle Club This article is about "American-style" motorcycle clubs (MCs) as a specific cultural phenomenon, not motorcycle riding clubs in the generic sense of the term.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the motorcyclists roared into the parking lot of ShelterCare's homeless shelter Homeless shelters are temporary residences for homeless people. About 90 shelter residents gathered outside the office as the riders and ShelterCare staffers helped distribute toys, Christmas stockings, hats, gloves, other small clothing items and Bibles.

The Cruizers began collecting new toys and clothing a week ago. Jim Carmickle, who organized Saturday's event, spent the wee hours of Friday morning standing in line to buy Cabbage Patch Cabbage patch may refer to:

"We're doing this because we love the Lord and we want to do something for others," he said.

One adult member of each shelter family went into the office to select gifts that they could give to a loved one on Christmas morning.

While Kelly was selecting Christmas gifts for her family, Raymond took their children, Noah, 4, Joseph, 2, and 5-month-old Leah, out to look at the chrome spangled span·gle

All of the commotion failed to waken Leah from her afternoon nap.

"I want this for Christmas," Noah said to his father, referring to a Honda motorcycle emblazoned with an orange flame on (messaging, jargon) flame on - To begin or continue to flame. The punning reference to Marvel Comics's Human Torch is no longer widely recognised.

"This is really exciting for the kids and it helps the parents who are saving to find housing of their own," she said.

Since 1970, ShelterCare has offered programs and services to homeless families and adults disabled by mental illness and brain injury.

Last year, ShelterCare served about 1,300 people in 11 different programs.

"It's a real honor to contribute and give back. ShelterCare was there for me when I had nothing," Goodman said.

Fellow Clean and Sober Motorcycle Club member Stacy Chase of Springfield was thrilled to bring so much cheer to the shelter's children.

"God willing, I hope we get to do it again next year," she said.
