Motive Joins Home Gateway Initiative.
The intent of the HGI is to establish technical specifications that support the interoperability of residential gateways with multiple connected devices in the digital home. The consortium will leverage the work of existing standards bodies such as the DSL Forum, UPnP Forum and Digital Living Network Alliance to identify potential gaps in broadband use cases, and make technical recommendations that result in the availability of high functionality, low cost customer premises equipment (CPE) that supports the delivery of advanced triple play services to consumers.
"Triple play services depend on a more sophisticated infrastructure that includes residential gateways for connecting the provider's network to multiple devices in millions of subscriber homes," said Sanjay Castelino, vice president of industry marketing at Motive. "By joining HGI, Motive is continuing its leadership in helping to define a set of standards that will allow service providers to more cost-effectively provision, support and maintain a range of diverse customer premises equipment -- and to grow their next generation service delivery accordingly."
Motive's participation in the HGI complements the company's ongoing involvement in numerous industry standards initiatives. These efforts have included significant contributions to the DSL Forum's TR-064 and TR-069, two protocols intended to jointly improve CPE operations and enable enhanced DSL services; and participation in the UPnP Forum and Digital Living Network Alliance to ensure that major home networking consortia are aware of the needs of broadband service providers, and that the technical work of the DSLHome Technical group aligns with these important initiatives.
Members of HGI include the world's leading telecommunications operators and equipment providers, including the following Motive customers and partners: Alcatel, BT, Deutsche Telekom, Linksys, Swisscom, Telecom Italia and Thomson.
