Motive Announces Software Product for Remote Management of Residential Gateway.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Motive Edge Device Manager to Provide Hardware-Independent Solution for the Delivery of Next-Generation Digital Services

In response to the emerging requirements for delivering a new generation of rich broadband services, Motive, Inc. (NASDAQ:MOTV), a leading provider of management software, today announced at its fifth annual customer conference -- Motivation 2004 -- Motive Edge Device Manager, a breakthrough product for configuring and managing advanced customer premises equipment, also known as residential gateways (RGWs). RGWs are quickly becoming the standard technology for delivering advanced home networking, voice and video services. According to In-Stat/MDR, RGWs will increase from 3 percent of the roughly $5.1 billion CPE market in 2003 to one-third of all devices shipped in 2007.

Since RGWs are central to the delivery of new digital services, providers have recognized that they must extend the boundaries of their management operations to include these devices. In addition, as services scale to the mass market, most providers will need to manage RGWs from multiple vendors, with varying features and configuration needs. This further complicates the customer experience and introduces a new set of operational costs and complexities. Motive Edge Device Manager will give providers a way to profitably and remotely activate, manage, control and monitor all RGWs, enabling a seamless customer experience and full realization of the growth opportunities from next-generation services.

Motive's Edge Device Manager will leverage industry standards such as DSL Forum's TR-069 to give providers greater flexibility in choosing RGWs, while at the same time exposing vendor-specific product functionality, which allows providers to differentiate their services. The product will provide a full suite of automated management capabilities for RGWs, including firmware update, configuration management, remote diagnostics and monitoring applications. In addition, by integrating with existing Motive broadband solutions for end-users and call centers, Motive's Edge Device Manager will give providers a unified technology platform for managing broadband customers and services.
