EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

DOMESTIC box office movie receipts fell 4 percent in 2005 compared to the previous year, grossing $8.8 billion.

. Domestic Theatrical Distribution claimed the top spot among movie distributors, with three of the seven highest grossing movies of the year.

Twentieth Century Fox jumped four spots to No. 2 in 2005 as it grossed $1.36 billion, just $24.4 million less than Warner Bros. Twentieth Century was boosted by the year's highest grossing movie, "Star Wars: Episode III," which brought in $380 million domestically.

Sony SONY Standard Oil of New York (common, but untrue; it's an urban legend)  Pictures Releasing, No. 1 in 2004, fell to No. 3 as it grossed just over $1 billion. WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC THEATRICAL DISTRIBUTION

THE distribution arm of Warner Bros. Entertainment brought in $1.38 billion, a $169 million increase over the previous year.

The distributor released 25 movies in 2005, down four from the previous year. Its box office receipts were anchored by a film in the Harry Potter A potter is someone who makes pottery.
