The "E-Menu" system takes advantage of Motion's lightweight, clipboard-sized tablet with integrated wireless capabilities and an electronic stylus, or pen, which replaces a mouse or keyboard as an input device.

Using the stylus with Motion's bright, 12.1-inch screen to point and click, diners can browse the menu items, customize selections and even place orders directly into the kitchen. The E-Menu can be updated in real time, enabling the chef to highlight specials or customize the menu depending on the time of day.

Ameranth Wireless, the project integrator, collaborated with Motion, Microsoft, Intel and Dell to develop the electronic menu system. Ameranth and IHG began gauging customer feedback to the E-Menu system in January with the opening of the first "next-generation" Holiday Inn prototype hotel in Duluth, Ga., north of Atlanta. After an initial success at the Duluth site, 10 additional Holiday Inn properties will be equipped with the E-Menu system by the end of July.
