* A 1300-page review of the first five years of the international Mine Ban Treaty reveals that more than 37 million stockpiled landmines have been destroyed. The use and production of the weapons around the world has plummeted, legal trade has virtually ceased, and more than 1,100 square kilometers of mine-affected land have been cleared. There are now 143 nations party to the treaty, with nine additional countries that have signed but not yet ratified rat·i·fy
