Montrose Fire Protection District Sizzles With ScheduleSoft; Fire Department Extinguishes Scheduling Dilemmas.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MONTROSE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2000

ScheduleSoft(R) today announced that Montrose Fire Department in Montrose has adopted ScheduleSoft's 24 x 7 multi-shift scheduling software.

The rules-based, point-and-click scheduling software makes it easy for the department to ensure that fire and emergency services are available around the clock.

The Montrose Fire Department coordinates emergency services for roughly 24,000 people scattered throughout Montrose County. As fire chief, Bob Pistor's most important responsibility is to ensure that fire and emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This requires long-term planning, schedule juggling, and last-minute changes when workers take sick or have emergencies of their own.

Until recently, Chief Pistor did most of his scheduling on hand-written calendars. Scheduling was a time-consuming task that invited mistakes.

"The majority of my time was spent working on the schedule," Pistor said. "My focus as Chief should be to maintain emergency services, not to schedule them."

Pistor's relief came in the form of ScheduleSoft's easy-to-use, point-and-click scheduling software. Through its step-by-step interview process, the program enabled Pistor to customize the application for his scheduling needs.

Using information supplied by Pistor, ScheduleSoft creates a staffing database based upon group size and skill requirements for each job, and the skill base of each individual firefighter. ScheduleSoft then creates a rules database to implement priorities for shift demand, minimum time between shifts, seniority, and other factors important to the department.

ScheduleSoft now generates electronic calendars for Pistor by date-range, individual, or other user-furnished criteria. Shift managers can also access the schedule when the chief is not around, which spares Pistor those midnight calls.

"Schedule Soft allows me to schedule the whole year quickly and with fewer mistakes," remarked Pistor. "Whereas I used to spend two thirds of my time re-working the schedule, I can now focus on providing quality, quick-response services around the clock and that's the way I like it."

ScheduleSoft is the most versatile, easy-to-use shift scheduling software on the market. Unlike conventional cut-and-paste scheduling spreadsheets, ScheduleSoft uses a rules-based decision-making system that makes it easy to accommodate complex, constantly changing, and conflicting workplace scheduling needs. ScheduleSoft's step-by-step installment process enables managers to quickly configure ScheduleSoft for their work environment without the need for costly site programming. The software also offers flexible reporting facilities, security features and compatibility with other personnel management tools and databases.

ScheduleSoft is readily adaptable to a wide range of hourly and shift-based work environments with anywhere from a handful of employees to tens of thousands of employees. It is used in industries such as law enforcement, fire departments, hospitals, emergency crews, manufacturing, hotels, custodial, retail, restaurants, transportation, telecommunications, utilities and radio/TV stations.
